Holidaying in Welsberg

In natural surroundings -
A holiday in Welsberg can be that good

A holiday in Welsberg means: broad flowery mountain pastures, medieval castles, giddy mountain peaks and above all uncontaminated nature! Welsberg is the gate to the Gsiesertal valley and has such a lot to offer! From the Gsieser valley with its alpine pastures to the most beautiful Dolomite lakes, Lake Prags (Pragser Wildsee) or Antholzer Lake (Antholzer See) – they are just a stone’s throw away from Welsberg and easy to get to.

For your holiday in Welsberg we recommend …

  • … for hikers and mountaineers:
a heritage walk to Castle Welsperg, the 40 metre tower of which makes it look more like a church than a castle; a walk for the whole family to the Taistner Alm mountain hut whilst alpinists can tackle the steep Rudlhorn.
  • … for mountain bikers and cyclists:
real trails for mountain bikers, leisurely rides for the entire family and then the most popular cycle path of the Pustertal. There’s something for everyone. Whether alone, in couples or with the family you will found all sorts of attractions on the Pustertal cycle path (Pustertaler Radweg), which takes you all the way to Lienz.
  • … for culture vultures:
Castle Welsperg, which was built in 1140, can be visited in the summer months but it also hosts classical concerts, festivals and exhibitions of the Late-Baroque painter, Paul Troger. His birthplace is also in Welsberg and can be visited.
  • … For winter sports enthusiasts
On skiing mountain number 1 –Kronplatz, winter sports enthusiasts will find all they could possibly wish for. It can be reached free of charge and fast with the HolidayPass and ski train. Cross-country skiers are also in luck. They are spoilt for choice with the 40-km Gsiesertal circuit, the Pustertal marathon circuit (Pustertaler Marathonloipe) or the biathlon centre in Antholz.
